Never thought I’d complain about the heat in England!
We have been experiencing a mini heatwave here in England and my workroom has been unbearably hot. I have taken to unpicking kimonos/haori jackets in the sitting room, the only cool room in the house.
I finished unpicking a blue kimono to make different face masks and then started on this Shibori haori jacket. Shibori is an ancient technique used in Japan, a sort of tie-dyeing. It typically involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it, then dyeing it. The numerous tiny dots on this fabric must have involved lots of tying and taken an age to produce, plus the embroidered flowers.
I’m not quite sure what I will make from this fabric, perhaps a cushion. Can you imagine how beautiful that would look on a bed?
