Silk cushion handmade from unpicked vintage kimonos (1970s)

Patchwork quilted silk cushion inspired by Japanese shoji screens

I import beautiful kimonos from Japan, unpick the seams, wash the fabric and cut into the desired shapes. Adding black silk kimono fabric cut into strips I make a patchwork front cover, then back this with wadding and an inner cotton lining, sewing along the black lines to create a raised effect. The back cover is made from cream kimono silk with an invisible zip sewn in and a matching band of fabric from one of the front cover patterns added to hide the zip. The final flourish is to add a woven brand name, KimonoSpirit, near the zip.

Stuff the kimono fabric cover with a duck feather pad and it's all set to go!
