Silk cushion handmade from an unpicked vintage kimono (1970s)
Classic wave pattern seigaiha with stitching to highlight the pattern
I import beautiful kimonos from Japan, unpick the seams, wash the fabric and cut into the desired shapes. Black silk kimono fabric cut into strips is used to break up the pattern on front cover, then backed with wadding and an inner cotton lining, sewing along the black lines to create a raised effect. In places I embroidered along the lines of the waves to add texture. The back cover is made from black kimono silk with a velcro fastening and a matching band of fabric from the front cover fabric added to enhance the plain back.
Stuff the kimono fabric cover with a duck feather pad and it's all set to go!
